I'm not making any money. My kids are becoming plutocratic oligarchs. Is that a good reason to vote against Dems? No. Is telling them that, after paying all the marijuana fees and taxes, and then after paying income taxes on what is left after paying wages and payroll tax, that you then want to put a surtax on everything they own? Yes, that would be a good reason.

"Did someone fail to teach you about empathy, ethics and your duty to your country and people less fortunate?"

I did my duty to my country when I spent almost 10 years working in a VA hospital. Happy Veteran's Day, folks. The last time I asked for details, the kids had hired 75 of the unfortunates, who were getting anywhere from $15/ hr, to, I think, $75K/year, plus medical coverage, plus housing for some. That's doing a helluva lot more for the country than everything you and your entire clan has done. I don't know if they've started a retirement plan yet, but I was talking to a local yesterday who is working for one of the companies in town, and she gets $48K plus medical and a 401K.

Why would they vote for somebody who then wants to go after another piece of everything they own?

If you own a business in California that sells cannabis and/or cannabis products, you must register with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration for a seller’s permit and regularly file sales and use tax returns. In addition to a seller’s permit, if you are a distributor, or microbusiness licensed to act as a distributor, of cannabis and/or cannabis products, you must register with the CDTFA for a cannabis tax permit and regularly file cannabis tax returns.

Cannabis Excise Tax and Cultivation Tax
Effective January 1, 2018, a 15 percent excise tax is imposed upon retail purchasers of cannabis and cannabis products. The 15 percent excise tax is calculated based on the average market price of the retail sale.

In addition, a cultivation tax on all harvested cannabis that enters the commercial market is imposed on cultivators at a rate of:

$9.25 per dry-weight ounce of cannabis flowers,$2.75 per dry-weight ounce of cannabis leaves, and$1.29 per ounce of fresh cannabis plant.**To qualify for the “fresh” plant category, the unprocessed cannabis must be weighed within two hours of harvesting.

Beginning January 1, 2020, the CDTFA is required to annually adjust the cultivation tax rates to account for inflation.
