For me, and I think this is what Scorsese is saying, is that when movies like Marvel make so much money, it leads to degradation of movie viewing audiences when your brain gets used to watching Marvel all the time, it becomes harder and harder to watch Tarkovsky.
When you listen to Taylor Swift too much, it's hard to listen to Vivaldi,
When you read articles linked to Twitter all the time, it's hard to read Bukowski.

Sequels are just lazy filmmaking. Sure, it makes money because you're spoonfeeding the audience, that then becomes dummer with each iteration.
