JERUSALEM (Dow Jones)--Elbit Systems (ESLTF) Ltd. and Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) of the U.S., have signed an agreement calling for greater cooperation to seek out business initiatives of interest to both companies, an Elbit spokeswoman confirmed Monday.

The agreement was signed Sunday in Tel Aviv. According to a joint statement, Elbit and Lockheed Martin will set up a steering committee and work groups' to deal with specific business opportunities worldwide.

Elbit Systems supplies equipment to Lockheed Martin's aeronautical sector, Elbit Systems President Joseph Ackerman said.

'The new agreement is a further natural step in strengthening and expanding the relations between the two companies,' Ackerman said in the statement.

Elbit Systems is a defense electronics company offering ground and airborne communications and control programs.
