Gold is up against dollar as unit gets slammed over prospects of 2 yr limp duck presidency or resignation. Greenspan's term up in June 2000 so Rubin likely to stay and finish IMF coordination at minimum before moving to Fed. FWIW. Case can be made here that bonds are being sold and moved into yen to dollar's detriment. Big move in Yen/$ today, back through 90dayMA, and accelerating. This hurts yen carry trades so scramble could continue. Sets up highly uncertain Feb auction IMHO.
