The whole emphasis on immigration from elsewhere was to undermine French nationalism. Multiculturalism meant that in effect the French became just one of the many nations rather than a special one. Yes, I know all about their official status, but I am talking in practice.

So if there is anyone who should be pissed off, it is the French Canada. They thought they are getting one thing on paper, only to realize there was a backdoor to dilute it away.

Now we can debate whether or not that was the right thing to do. But omitting it from a student of history is a pretty big omission.
