Do you think Trump would resign rather than accept an impeachment?
Jon Mixon, Played the game my entire life. It's always been a draw.
No, because Donald Trump is surprisingly stupid and would likely drown in a river of turmoil, rather than save himself.
Let's review:
Trump was surprised to win in 2016 - Rather than realizing that he was woefully unprepared for the job and trying to build bridges with the Democrats, he began his idiotic campaign of making enemies which has led to his impeachment.Instead of taking a minimalist approach toward the Comey investigation, he created a disastrous mess that is currently also going to consume him - Trump fired James Comey, thus creating the necessity of hiring Robert Mueller. Had he simply done nothing, he likely would have been in a better position. He clearly has tried to enrich himself using his office - Despite being able to grow wealthier when he left office, Trump openly and nakedly has attempted to cash in on his office while in it. Since this is clearly a violation of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution and he was almost certainly advised of that, he's demonstrated that he doesn't care about the law or being caught breaking it.He cost the GOP their majority in the House in 2018 - The only thing that was preventing him from being impeached was maintaining a majority in both houses of Congress and Trump foolishly squandered that. The Ukraine debacle - Trump attempted to involve a foreign power in the US elections which is exactly what he was accused of during the 2016 election. Worse he didn't even bother to do so in manners that couldn't be linked directly to him.Donald Trump isn't going to resign because he's too stupid to do things that would benefit him. He's going to be impeached, he's going to have to endure a humiliating trial in the Senate, and he's provided the Democrats with ammunition to use against his campaign in 2020. He's created the loss that he seems to believe that his actions would have prevented.
Like I said, Donald Trump is too stupid to resign even though it's probably one of the few things that could potentially save the tattered remnants of his legacy. |
