ThermaCell Granted Critical Microsphere Patent

MIAMI, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- ThermaCell Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: VCLL - news,
VCLLW - news) has been granted U.S. Patent No. 5713974 for its low- cost, proprietary
VaxCell(TM) method for manufacturing evacuated microspheres, it was announced today by
John Pidorenko, Chairman, President and CEO.

ThermaCell's method makes it economically viable to use microspheres as the key ingredient in
the Company's thermal resistant line of ThermaCool(TM) paints and coatings. Microspheres are
uniform, hollow, glass bubbles that look like fine, white sand. Mixed in paints, coatings and
other building materials, microspheres create a barrier that can be more effective and less
expensive than conventional insulation.

''Winning patent protection is a significant, positive, material development for the Company,''
said Mr. Pidorenko, noting that one of the major risk factors when the Company went public in
March 1997 was no assurance of patent protection.

Since it was introduced on a limited basis last year, ThermaCool has begun to experience
strong, initial acceptance and success with local contractors in North and South Florida.
''Armed with our new patent protection, we are developing plans to step up VaxCell production
in order to introduce ThermaCool to national home improvement chains with Sunbelt
distribution,'' said Mr. Pidorenko.

He also said the Company plans to test the viability of VaxCells for other applications in the
multi-billion dollar insulation market as well as non-insulation related applications. New
insulation market applications include construction, aerospace and home appliances. For
example, within construction, ThermaCell plans to determine whether VaxCells can be used to
make drywall with insulation values high enough to eliminate the need and cost for traditional,
fiberglass insulation. The Company also plans to determine whether VaxCells can be used to
make drywall that is lighter and stronger than existing products.

As previously reported, tests on ordinary shingles on Florida homes painted with ThermaCool
Roof Coating dramatically reduced temperatures by more than 30%, reducing wear on the roof
outside and air conditioning needs inside. NASCAR Racing Teams report that ThermaCool
Racing Products reduce the extraordinary heat in driver compartments by 50-60%, reducing
wear on equipment as well as drivers. For more information, contact ThermaCell
