We use these protein blocks in the cattle business. You can get a protein block that weighs 50 lbs for about $10....(Hi Pro is a good brand for these types of things. I avoid tractor supply feeds...there stuff is crappy.) My cows go nuts for them...I would guess deer would too. You can get a tub of lick material that includes protein and a filler that includes molasses...a sweet filler. They range in price and size. I believe you could get a 200 lb lick for about $80 but I don't buy them often. They make a hard variety that lasts longer but costs more and a soft variety...cheaper. You might try a block...it's cheap. I am guessing it would take them a bit of time to figure out what it is but they will love it. If they go for that, you could put a tub out. I think you will have plenty coming to that. Mineral or salt licks like you have are good too of course.

The tiller sounds like it will work then. Go slow. If you live up North in god's country like where Bob is you have black soil and rain and the ground is softer. If you have stony soil or hard dry clay like we get down here sometimes, a disc is going to be tough. You would have to make several passes and weigh it down maybe with some concrete bags. The tiller will do better in softer soil too of course but you have more going for you than gravity, which is what you rely on with something like a disc.

Sounds like an enjoyable project. Always great to be able to put food by. A little venison turned into summer sausage is a real treat too!
