What the Senate should do is vote this down without a trial.

They really don't believe that they will be able to do that, and I'm pretty sure that McConnell has already nixed that option. That might save the Dems from total embarrassment and give them the upper hand for the election by declaring that the Republicans blocked hearings and justice on a dirty President. Nor can they trust Romney, Susan Collins, Murkowski, and maybe several other RINO's.

Their best option is to allow the Democrat members to shut down the impeachment by not having enough votes to proceed. When it goes to the Senate, Biden is finished and McConnell can drag it out for months if he wants to do so and almost eliminate Democrat campaigning for President.

Trump sent that confirmation this morning on FOX. He prefers a trial over dismissal, as does the Senate.
