11/22/2019 Contest update
Biotechs had a hot week, significantly outperforming the broad market. Likely helping the sector was the recycled cash from the closing of the Bristol buyout of Celgene.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 19.10% YTD (vs. up 14.05% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 18.97% YTD (vs. up 15.08% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 22.20% YTD (vs. up 17.58% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 28.40% YTD (vs. up 28.72% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader, HOOD’s portfolio, put some more points on the board and is now up a phenomenal 170.55% YTD! BULBA’s portfolio, up 75.17% YTD, moved back to second place and DEWO’s portfolio, up 72.07% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, 29 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, while 21 were now beating the NBI and 17 were now beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 26.24% and, back in the green, a median YTD gain of 4.33%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: CELG buyout by BMY for: 1 BMY share, $50 in cash and 1 CVR (Yahoo symbol is BMY-R). I used 11/21 closing prices for cash reallocation. CELG was held in portfolios of HOOD, ROCKY and SANCTU.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a thankful and giving Thanksgiving biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
