Man, that's what I'd like to know, too. Something very interesting has been going on today. Does anyone know of a precedent for this type of massive-volume / price-inaction event. It just gets curiouser and cuiouser as the day goes on. (yes, I came home from the slopes early just to see what was happening)

Some thoughts.......

Is anyone thinking that it has been quite amazing that IOM could sell over 12 million Zips in the short time it took with the relatively limited amount of advertising done so far?

Will the Street ever see the logic of starting the mass market education campaign with a ~$139 price placed in peoples' heads so that they perhaps notice and react to well (loudly) announced, well publicized price reductions?

Seems very well suited to the sub $1k 'puter buyers to me.... especially when KE said their biggest area of future manufacturing cost reductions would come from integration, and that OEM's have to requalify all new integrations.... after market sales to the sub 1k market ( and all aftermarket sales) don't require qualification.....therefore, IOM can take one track with OEM's, and another with the aftermarket crowd.

Another thought.... is is reasonable assume that many of the Q4 oem box sales were opened at or around the holidays?
If so, a lot of new internal Zips didn't have a great deal of time to generate higher tie ratios. But, those hard drives and one or two disks that came in Santa's pack are getting filled up. Is it reasonable to consider that tie ratios might firmup in Q1 and 2 as Christmas 'puters start needing more space for their stuff?
If that be the case, how timely is it to get hit starting now with a nation wide ad campaign that both encourages you to use more of the suckers and even goes so far as to educate you as to the why's and how's of storing more stuff.

Has ayone seen any indication from any source that the huge grwoth predicted for removable storage in the next few years has been reduced?
Iom's story was never about getting all of that increase, just about getting its full and generous share. Has any of that changed?
