The trade system set up in the wake of WWII served some very important purposes, which have been widely explained and make sense. What hasn't been explained and doesn't make sense is why we are still operating under that system. It's been half a century since Japan and Germany finished rebuilding their economies.

Trump recognized that change is long overdue. Our political apparatus and business class have arranged themselves around the old system, so they're fighting back.
