Trump’s unfiltered tweets help China in negotiations because he is “easy to read,” said Long Yongtu, a former vice minister of foreign trade and China’s point man during its accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001, at a conference in Shenzhen this month. “We want Trump to be reelected; we would be glad to see that happen.” IMHO, the CCP, neocons, neoliberals, both political parties, Brexit, Davos, etc.etc. have not yet recognized "the turning" away from globalization to populism.
For better or worse, Trump was elected as a conservative populist and proceeded to trash NAFTA, TTP, Paris Climate Accord, WTO, etc. in spite of Establishment Republican support for such institutions.
The DNC is squandering an opportunity to combat Trump by supporting the neoliberal globalist wing of the party and minimizing the socialist populists in Sanders and Warren.
This movement is much bigger than Trump, Democrats, or China Trade Treaty. France, Spain, UK, Hong Kong, eastern European countries wanting out of the EU, all are restive with growing populist movements.
The CCP should be careful what they wish for. They think they are still playing the globalist game with Trump, but he is playing a different populist game. They may want him to be reelected, but they may also wind up holding the bag.
