Agree that Facebook, in part, is based on a business model of providing "free" services to users... that ensures "if it is free, you are the product".

However, I'm not a Facebook user... deliberately intend not to be one. So, that means Facebook isn't building a dossier on me... and they aren't selling my personal data... since I've not agreed to allow them to collect information on me and do that. Right ?

Otherwise my only real quibble with the factual basis in yours is in the percentage of Americans engaged in agriculture.

But, of course, Facebook has billions of dollars and a team of lawyers. It's hard to see anyone with deep enough pockets to take them on to reach such a verdict. Rather, my sense is that Facebook would find it way cheaper to just pay people off who challenge them on this if need be, as opposed to losing a cash cow.

For now, I'll limit mine to suggesting that I have a different view of the nature of the problem... in addressing Facebook's risks.

Although, also... I would need to talk to lawyers... and dissect their advice very carefully... before thinking it made a lick of sense to accept being "paid off"... to drop a challenge. Not about the value in the pay day... but the disparate risks in accepting one... relative to the lesser risks and larger rewards in not.

Facebook is the low hanging fruit in the larger context we're discussing.

The questions left... include... how many lawyers and how much money does it take... to turn a chicken back into an egg ?
