Yep, I have experienced both good and bad with dentists.
In one instance years ago in Phoenix, I had to establish a relationship with a new dentist having just moved there. I followed the advice of a coworker (there was no internet then to check reviews).
I have a congenital condition where there are bone formations on my upper and lower palate called tori. They cause no problems (but would if I ever wanted dentures but I'll try to avoid that). Anyway, I saw this dentist for an initial evaluation and a cleaning. As soon as I opened my mouth, he said "we need to schedule you for surgery to have those tori removed". He was clearly gold digging. I left as fast as I could and never returned! Over 30 years later, I still have those tori!
Regarding "no debt". Good on you. A lot of offices offer plans like "Care Credit" where there is no interest for a given period of time and then interest kicks in. The "no interest" pitch is enticing to many. But, boy howdy, when the interest kicks in, it KICKS in. You can usually work out an arrangement with your dentist to pay as you go to avoid such stuff. A dentist who is willing to do this is another mark of a good dentist. |
