Fighting infections has become very serious business in the medical community with the advent of antibiotic resistant bacteria.

While it used to be "easy mode" by using antibiotics to stave off infections in everything, they became over prescribed and it helped lead to the current problem of bacterial superbugs that are largely immune to all known antibiotics.

It's a fascinating and dangerous race against the clock to develop new drugs to fight these bacteria. Scientists are now turning to genetic engineering as one way to fight these new bacteria, so there is new hope.
