Nothing in this world is fair. Humans compete against one another everywhere. There always has been a rich poor gap, and always will be. There is nothing fair about the way China has competed economically in the world today. We have been asleep and drunk on cheap imports. Some of us are now awake.

Canadians have lived in a blissful socialist bubble for decades because we have resources other people want and we shared that wealth with each other. Now that environmentalists are succeeding in destroying our resource industries, you will not be able to live as you do, off the fruits of the past resource/manufacturing boom, for much longer. Remember, consumption is the biggest contributor, by far, to Canadian and U.S. GDP. Canadians do not live in the squalor that most of the rest of the worlds billions do, at the moment.

This is not the old "us vs commie thing". This is the new, "who will dominate and control manufacturing and hi tech" thing. Who will supply the worlds consumers with their electronic tech stuff, and other science breakthroughs?

Trump is just the front man for tariffs and the trade war. There is broad agreement in the U.S., by all the movers and shakers, that these actions are necessary. These actions are working. There is a large exodus of U.S. controlled manufacturing leaving China for other parts of the world. If they stay in China, the powers that be in the states will tariff them to death. These tariff actions and trade war is rapidly changing the import export figures for the two countries. If the current U.S. leadership stays in place after the next elections, the trade actions will continue, and the exodus will be even greater.
