Zak, An IOM ad doesn't have to appeal to you. They are probably
targeting the profile of their best potential customers. These
target markets/ad style/demographics, etc are heavily researched.
But even if they miss the center, almost any TV ad will bring in
sales. Bad, goofy, jerky, scary, boring ads all do. Look at
something like home shopping network: put up a pretty picture of anything,
talk about it, put up a price, it doesn't matter how good, cheap
or expensive it is, gobs and gobs of folks will call up and
buy. All IOM needs is when Joe Suburb walks into CompUSA or
Best Buy looking for a PC, they want him to remember Zips,
ask if its included, ask how much it costs, any response at
all. That will get demand moving. Marketing works because
most people are sheep that love to get stroked, bribed,
lied to, or kicked in the butt. A great ad will bring in
big bucks, but crappy ones still can pay off quite well.
You just need the $$$ to spend.
