Because those returns haven't been a foot thick or three feet thick. And those candidates, regardless of what you may say, were not as hated as this one.

And most importantly, because the media were in the news business, not the advocacy business. It wasn't their role to decide who was elected president. Their role was to provide facts.

Today, the media believes it has not only the right but the obligation to decide on behalf of the public who the president will be. (See: Chuck Todd on Meet The Press, Sunday, 12-8-19).
