| | | Bruwin, there was an uproar several years back regarding nail salons in New York State. A NYTimes article uncovered dozens of cases of nail salon workers getting underpaid, overworked, and outright abused:
The Price of Nice Nails
That story, of course, went viral, and Prince Andrew Cuomo rode in on his white horse saving the day:
Governor Cuomo Announces Multi-Agency Enforcement Task Force to Tackle Abuse in the Nail Salon Industry
Entirely predictable, of course.
But what really struck me was how "surprised" people were regarding the plight of nail salon workers.
Really? These workers are all "undocumented immigrants." They were hired on the cheap for a reason. Ladies like having their nails done but don't want to pay a fortune for it.
For the longest time, the left looked the other way as these women were working their asses off for less than minimum wage in unsafe working conditions. Then the NYTimes comes out with its "landmark expose" (ROFL), and now people are oh-so-indignant over this.
But that's exactly what happens when you encourage "undocumented immigrants" to stay here and look for jobs. The temptation by businesses to hire them on the cheap is too great. Competition is often fierce, with razor-thin profit margins by business owners who themselves are not living more than a lower-middle-class lifestyle. If the business down the road is hiring "undocumented immigrants," you will have to as well, or else you just can't compete.
This is the kind of willful ignorance that the left engages in all the time. They create these conditions, and then they get all riled up when they see how bad things become.
Of course, I don't expect trolls like Ro33 to discuss this intelligently. He thinks all of this talk about the economics of "undocumented labor" is something only "deplorable" Trump supporters would understand.
