Generally, the CPU chip is MUCH smaller than the physical package.
There are, however, microBGA (Ball Grid Arraa) packages that are available that are only somewhat larger than a silicon die - but these may not have enough pins for a Pentium-class CPU chip. Intel uses them for Flash memory devices.
