Thomas, nice post. Was there any doubt? March 31 is I believe when the Japanese review whether the banks, financial institutions and life ins. co.'s satisfy capital requirments.

So it makes sense that we're seeing the Nikkei buck the Asian trend as of late, because it's now in these institutions interest prop up their own overvalued capital base to avoid "the unthinkable." The only other alternative is to change the rules, which the Japanese may be in the process of also doing.

Anyhow, many of these instutions are bankrupt already, if not legally. So I remain convinced that ultimately all that treasury money, every penny of it, will have to be repatriated. A bankrupt has little choice as to which assets to liquidate.
