I have only been to LA twice. 47 years ago I hitch hiked across country and visited a friend in Venice, CA. The first night I went to the beach alone and found myself smoking a joint with some black dudes. They knew I was a New Yorker right away and they were introducing me to their friends
as "nigger". I was sort of shocked, but I had a poker face back in my younger days too, so no one noticed anything. In NYC, that word was taboo and if you used it, you got jumped immediately and possibly killed. When I got back to my friend's place, he told me "nigger" meant I was cool.
I found LA loose, very loose.
A few years ago I went to LA for few days with my youngest son to watch the Mets/Dodgers. I was shocked to see people making their home under bus stops. The homelessness was rampant, all over. In NYC, they try to clean that up and have been partly successful.
Most of the people in Clarke County say that the Casinos control everything. Fact is they let the Casinos control most things. We haven't gambled once since we moved here.
