If Bill has to resign, rest assured it will *not* be because of the affair, IMO, but rather would occur because evidence was produced showing he lied under oath, and/or obstructed justice. Indeed, such would be a poor example to the nation. Agree?
re his actions do not threaten our personal liberties as the puritans might.
I don't follow. Who has suggested such a thing, besides you?
Believe it or not, people of all beliefs can be *very* forgiving for misdeeds. What makes people upset is when people cover-up, lie, obstruct justice, "deny deny deny", etc., *particularly if facts are revealed showing they did indeed lie.* I would refer you to former President Nixon, and what happened to his presidency after proof came out (after he denied it) that he had indeed bugged the Democratic convention. Or perhaps, as you seem to "fear the rightous, rightwing puritans*, perhaps you see nothing wrong with Nixon's bugging of the Democratic convention, and then saying publically "I am not a crook"? (lying).
Fortunately, most Americans still have a sense of what is right and wrong.
