cash. i recently joined the cash club. historically, i have been at 4% to 5% cash. now at 9%. although i do not think 9% or so will make much of a difference. if the market drops 20%, i will only drop 18%. big deal. There is really no way to prepare for bad times by holding small % cash. I am prepared for bad times, as always, by owning companies that own real (hard) assets, are paying dividends, and growing profits. If i'd have gone cash crazy a year ago, i'd have lost out big time. cannot time the market. I think quite a few utilities are pricey now, and extra div % does not justify the stock price risk. however, if i see deals after companies issue 2019 earnings and 2020 expectations, i will lower cash %.

FYI:

Taxable account cash held in etrade premium savings at 1.75%
IRA cash in VMFXX vanguard government money market fund at 1.55%
any better ideas?
