The pooch is already bonding and looking up to me for permission. Dobermans are incredibly intelligent dogs who are eager to please. The main issue with the dog is if I'll have enough time. The bigger issue is the wife :(
When you read the ad description the guy put up, the dog is described as, crate trained, house trained, sits on command, etc. None of which is really true, except maybe the potty trained part - though I still have to validate that.
Dogs don't need to be trained to sit, lay down, go to toilet etc. They already know how to do all that. What they need to be trained at is communicating their needs and trusting that when a human tells them to do something, it is in their interest to do so. Given what I saw, I suspect that point was lost on the owner. |
