I've decided to follow your advice and send the dog back. The tipping point was that the dog is not really house-trained and has made major messes in the house. I really don't understand why someone would buy a puppy only box him in a cage without any training, socializing, or even veterinary care (yes, the vaccines are out of the date too). And a highly intelligent and energetic dog that needs a lot of social interaction at that!

This is heartbreaking because he is an incredibly good dog and is already bonding with me, following me everywhere, and taking permission. But I hardly have enough time to train him and with the wife being against it and the dog not being housebroken, there will be too much headache at home. Maybe when I retire I can spend more time saving dogs.

Sigh!
