VSE: CAZ NEWS RELEASE
January 21. 1998

PERVASIVE GOLD / 95% RECOVERABLE

Catalyst Ventures Corp has received a summary report on the Wedza Mountain gold mining property which lies in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe some 150 km south-east of Harare. Catalyst Ventures Corp's option agreement covers an initial 1192 mineral claims and additional staking has been completed for a further 790 claims.

Small scale gold / silver production is current on the claims and Zimbabwe government records show an historical production of 688.1 kg of gold produced in the period 1926-34 from both a small open-pit and underground orkings and subsequent stamp milling. The overall gold recovered gradea ppears to have been about 7.8 g/t.

Both the access and the terrain is good; the latter typical savanna. The local labour force has suitable expertise for the current operation.

The current field examination, over about 3 sq. km of the southern portion of the property, shows pervasive gold/silver occurrence along at least a one km distance on strike in what could be shown to be two gold reef systems. Assaying of 72 samples, including test pits and channel sampling, gave gold values ranging from 0.1 to 127.26 g/t and silver from 0.4 to 103.8 g/t. Two modes of mineralization have been observed: in weathered greenstone and in banded iron formation. In both instances the gold is associated with quartz.

The gold is free occurring and easily observed in simple crushing and
panning. A scoping metallurgical test showed a nominal 95% gold recovery. Gravity separation is expected to be adequate.

Visible gold is readily seen in samples collected.

A full engineering report is being prepared and will include a plan for increasing production. Site inspection and metallurgical studies were carried out by Canadian registered professional engineers, and fire assays by registered assayers in Canadian laboratories.

The summary report together with maps, plans and site photographs,
including rock samples showing visible gold, is being posted on Catalyst's Web Site today.
