"Doesn't $60 million write-off for buying 3 concerns with cash sound rather high?"

Not sure what you mean by that. Rather high for what? Too much write-off in one quarter? CREAF can well afford it. Too high for what they got? CREAF got good value in every case.

They've been very astute in their timing of these acquisitions - right in the middle of financial panic. Could there be more financial panic? Sure. And CREAF has plenty of cash left for more acquisitions, which if the market suffers more will be made at even cheaper prices.

Look to AMAT as a great example of a company that has taken advantage of weak markets to gobble-up competitors who were too financially weak to weather bad times. That is how AMAT has reached their dominent position in semi equipment. CREAF appears to be following that model.

BTW, I think that CREAF's next acquisition(s) may be a bit less familiar to us that their most recent ones. I'll bet there are some great opportunities right now in Asian assembly houses. Did somebody say that CREAF had a capacity crunch? ;)
