You cannot make this comparison. No one can predict what will happen in the future and if there is a lapse in coverage you would be absolutely screwed. No one is insulated from this possibility. While the ACA has some flaws it is a major move forward. It had reduced the % of individuals eligible for free or uncompensated care at the bigger hospitals which in turn reduced overall costs as their was a reduction in the % of private insurers
subsidizing uncomp costs.
