Leo,

Thanks for the polite, good-humored invitation to respond to you on the LVB thread. I appreciate the straight-up talk and good advice. It deserves a thorough explanation for my original post. I would have done this via email to keep it private, but your email address is not posted. I think people need to be held accountable, so I made my complaint to Jill public, used my real name, and posted my email address.

Although I'm not a youngster, I still work for a living and have not been able to spend the time to perform the kind of in-depth, timely research that many on SI do as part of their investment stratetgies. I LOVE SI for the open, sharing, and insightful research and opinions people offer, whether I agree with them or not. I'm still an investing novice and SI is educating me fast!

Unfortunately, there are some people here who do not seem to subscribe to the "sharing" attitude, but see this as an arena to perform intellectual sparring, one-upsmanship, and name calling. They take pleasure in raising the blood pressure of the participants the way some people like to torture animals.

It is not my nature to go out of my way to make trouble for people. They usually do a fine job of that themselves. Vanni, on the other hand, seems to really ENJOY his role as muckraker as evidenced by complaints all over SI.

Contrary to what he claims, it is NOT possible to skip his posts if one simply hits NEXT in the thread: his irritating posts pop up right in sequence. (I requested that Jill consider giving us a SKIP list which will cause NEXT to skip posts of people in our SKIP list. BTW, please give Vanni my thanks for the idea.)

I truly think he is a brilliant person having an excellent command over the English language. His comments, however, are always steeped in a claim of innocence and having been the victim or target of unfounded attacks, when in fact he has instigated the attacks with his irritating and manipulative manner. His comments are meant to manipulate, put people down, to irritate them, and to disrupt the thread. All of this is done with the most innocent of writing tones. For example, read the following:

Hey Leo, Have you seen the Creaf thread lately? No reason you should, but it is funny how they complain like crazy about me, then when I don't post, they go looking for me all over SI (hi Jon!) and respond to my messages in other threads where they find them.

Or else they refer to my messages back in the Creaf thread, showing that they've been looking for me all over the place. They don't seem like they really know what they want.

Even stranger is that they think a discussion of whether an earnings revision occured, or even whether a brokerage that covers the stock really exists, is a waste of time. I thought SI was meant to be a place to talk about investing. If so, you would think the analyst community is at least of some importance.

Don't get sucked in by his innocent tone and stupid examples selected exclusively for his purposes:

Looking all over for him? NO WAY! I was going to publicly complain to Jill (which I did, in the thread and via email). I felt compelled, in fairness to Vanni, to be sure this was truly a pattern of irritating behavior all over SI, not just an isolated incident on the CREAF thread. It didn't take me long to find another example of Vanni's behavior (on the LVB thread). Again, they were a mis-characterization of others' comments presented in the most innocent tone but designed again to do harm. I posted them to illustrate my complaint. There were many more examples in his posting list and on LVB.

Regarding the earnings revision statements, Vanni simply refused to even indicate what they were or who offerred them. He appointed himself the "knowlege keeper" and set the ground rules for winning the right to the information. Very arrogant. It is common practice on SI to hold people accountable to their sources of information. Even SI provides a text box with the link address (as in my example at the top of this letter), so people can attribute information to the source. Vanni refuses to do so.

In any case, I don't intend to pursue this topic in the future. I just thought that you seemed very fair and polite and that the record needs to be set straight. If Vanni set up this thread for friendly sparring, humor or mutual entertainment, that's great. Participating on other threads in a disruptive way, purely for sport, is inappropriate.

I just hope that your participation with him in setting up this thread does not lead everyone else to believe you support his behavior...

Thanks again for inviting me to the LVB thread to respond.

P.S. To Vanni, my email is posted if you want to take it offline.
