Trump probably did want both the Bidens investigated. But he should have. Trump voters, remember us...half the country, want them thoroughly reamed out.

I was following your argument until you got to that. The question remains: why the Bidens? I am not sticking up for them but rather recognizing that that kind of soft corruption is common and legal. There is plenty of hay to be made elsewhere.

So, then, why would the Bidens, in particular, be so stuck in half the country's craw? What would justify the extraordinary and dramatic and secretive extent to which the effort was taken? It distracted top officials from their day jobs, threatened the security of both Ukraine and the US, and created an international incident, for heaven's sake.

There "does not appear to be" a good answer for that.
