--Iran knew it was shooting down a civilian aircraft--

yeah, and the u.s. would never shoot down a civilian aircraft, even following an attack on u.s. soil. -jk-

"...Bush authorized Cheney to give orders for the military to shoot down any civilian airliner
that did not respond to commands. .. some to argue that Cheney went ahead and issued shoot
down orders shortly after 10 on his own, and then retroactively sought the President’s authorization.
It is clear from the records that Bush gave (re)authorization for a civilian shootdown in a second
(or perhaps initial) conversation with Cheney at about 10:23..."

and if there was military jamming of iranian communications (oh my, the u.s. would never do that!),
then iran might not be able to communicate with the airliner. i don't know what happened, but straight -
up trust of u.s. military stories seems very naive.

wmd anyone?
