The Republicans would be pretty foolish if they allowed witnesses to be called. That would bring out a lot of dirt in regard to Trump and show what a slimeball he is. That would enable Democrats to take over the Senate and strengthen their grip on the House and bring another impeachment charge during Trump's second term.
