[pair etc ] Hi shlomi yes i noticed the pair/harris announcement as well... those names together jumped right off the screen at me... :) some first thoughts (nothing you probably don't know)... seems like the pair/harris relationship is quite different than the orctf/harris relationship.., but probably bears watching... there is no indication that pair and harris have been developing product together... but rather that some harris product works well with some pair product... apparently pair has selected two of harris' off the shelf components (available to others, and at least one of which i believe suitable for a variety of purposes) to be used as the analog front end for their adsl chipset... and as you know orctf and harris have been working together since the spring of 96 to jointly develop a vdsl chipset... (due q2 98).. believe the orctf/harris vdsl chipset will be a big deal... bleeding edge(?) have been collecting info on the various adsl chipsets... looks like the trend is towards a system on a chip... that is, a custom programable asic... generally, the more integration the better for both cost and power consumption... the upcoming orctf/fujitsu adsl chip will not be using a separate analog front end, but will have it's analog front end integrated into the chip itself (a first)... hope they can pull it off on schedule... things seem to be heating up.. the buzz here is g.lite... lots of news and more scheduled for next week... so far nothing from orctf... bet tho, it's at least discussed in monday's conference call... by chance decided yesterday to check on timing of q4 earnings... wasn't expecting it til feb.. turns out release is scheduled for this monday before the market opens.. am cautiously optimistic in light of adtn's hdsl strength and intc's strength in europe.. have been wondering if "the distributer" will be announced soon... timing would be good, particularly if the name is suitably recognizeable and the announcement includes something (good) on orctf g.lite .. <g>.. am wondering if it might be a boxmaker rather than a modem maker per se.. hope to catch the cc replay in the evening and will try to post highlights.. best wishes s
