This has been one truly shitty evening...just got back from the hospital.
A couple of days ago I took my dog to be spayed. They told me that everything has gone fine and I can pick her up in the afternoon, which I did. She came home with a cone and was lethargic for the evening, which was expected. The next day I only let her go to the front yard to do her business and kept her at home. She had her cone on the whole time, to prevent her licking herself.
Today, I took her for gentle walk around the block and she spent the rest of the day at home. Then in the evening, she went for a card ride with my wife and kids (still having her cone on)...and I get a hysterical phone call from my kids - daddy, come out ASAP, her guts are spilling all over the place.
Her stitches opened up and the poor dog had her guts hanging out as she came out of the car. I tried to find an emergency number for the vet, but he had not left any. I started calling around and found one place nearby that was open. They were very caring people but told me that they could not do more than first aid for her. They cleaned up the stuff that was hanging out, gave her some pain medication, and put on temporary stitching, and referred me to an emergency vet clinic. Now the dog is there in icu to be seen by a surgeon in the morning. The bill for them is $8k - the bill for the first clinic, I still haven't got. The pain that the kids and us went through, just unimaginable.
I am torn between wanting to punch the daylight out of the vet who spayed her without closing properly, and suing his ass off and doing whatever I can to put him out of business. |
