1/24/2020 Contest update

Frightened by the coronavirus outbreak investors’ mindset turned bearish, with biotechs hit harder than the broad market.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 3.49% YTD (vs. up 7.56% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -1.24% YTD (vs. up 3.01% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -2.80% YTD (vs. up 3.06% YTD a week ago, while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), was up 3.26% YTD (vs. up 4.08% YTD a week ago).
Biotechies were able to buy some cheap TRILs as the Contest's top gaining stock sold off a bit earlier on Friday, with their bet paying off as it rebounded to close higher. Boosted by its 20% TRIL allocation, JBOG’s portfolio jumped back to first place with an intimidating 55.04% YTD gain. Also helped by TRIL, with 10% allocations, were second place FILO’s portfolio, up 48.92% YTD, and third place OLIVIER’s portfolio, up 25.00% YTD.
At Friday's close, just 27 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 29 beating the NBI and 31 beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 5.83% and a median YTD loss of -0.26%.
