From Matthew 6
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.....(give praise)
Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven (accept his will)
Give us this day our daily bread. (ask for your basic needs)
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. (ask to be forgiven by the same measure that you forgive others)
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. |
