HI ISO,

Just finished my round trip to and back from Houston.

Sturgeon spearing on lake Winnebago is going to be very marginal.

Normal ice thickness ranges from 30 to 36 inches.

My spearing partner surveyed the lake and ice is 4-12 inches - not thick enough to drive vehicles on.

Atv's and temporary shanties are only way to fish.

We're not spearing this year - first time in 10 years, but not unheard of in the past.

So that says a lot about ground and water temps in the midwest.

THe river I live on iced up for a week or two and has now melted back to flowing.

Too bad this is a fun winter time but it needs cold and snow.

Time to drive back to Texas and enjoy the 60's.

Thinking it will be another soggy spring and hard to get the garden in early.

Going to start my seeds in late march.
