Bolton shared concerns with Barr that Trump was giving favors to autocrats: report

Former national security adviser John Bolton told Attorney General William Barr privately last year about concerns he had that President Donald Trump was effectively granting personal favors to authoritarian leaders, the New York Times reported late Monday. Citing people familiar with the draft manuscript of Bolton's upcoming book detailing his time in the White House, the Times reported that Bolton felt uneasy about Trump's dealings with China's President Xi Jinping and Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Barr reportedly shared his concerns, and mentioned he was worried Trump had created the appearance of having undue influence over ongoing federal investigations into companies from those countries, the Times said. The news comes a day after the Times reported that Bolton said in his book that Trump told him explicitly that nearly $400 million in security aid to Ukraine should be withheld until Ukrainian officials agreed to investigate the Bidens
