Also, as for the Bolton claim in his book, the fact is that Trump might have WANTED to hold back aid and force an investigation, might have even said this in passing to Bolton, but Trump never did it. It seems to me this could allow a Trump defense attorney to point out again that Trump (1) doesn't like foreign aid, in general (2) held disdain for Ukrainian past corruption, and (3) was ticked off to find out that the staff of the embassy had openly preferred Hillary be elected. So, yeah, Trump wanted that all investigated, and, yeah, Trump may have wished he could just force the issue into the open by withholding the aid, the same method Biden used to get a prosecutor fired.
But unlike Biden, Trump did not follow through. No crime, unless Congress is prepared to make wishful thinking an impeachable offense. |
