I have to agree with Carranza. Republicans have blown this whole thing. IMO, they failed from the beginning to frame all the events the right way. As Cruz pointed out, it was reasonable and even expected that a POTUS would want Joe Biden's actions investigated. It was Joe Biden who actually did what Trump is accused of. Joe didn't just threaten, he actually refused to release aid until a government prosecutor was fired. Hunter Biden didn't even need to be made part of the case because there's no way to prove why Joe Biden blocked the aid. What matters is that Joe Biden intervened in the business of a foreign government by withholding promised aid until that government did what he wanted. That is a real event. It happened. The fact that Trump wanted to do the same thing doesn't matter, I would argue, because Trump didn't follow through.

Instead of strategizing, Republicans went every which way, rushing to grab the microphone so as to quickly respond to each Democratic allegation, seemingly not appreciating that each answer precipitated a new line of attack. One should never answer an important question unless one is prepared for the likely questions to follow.

This is just what took place during the Mueller investigation. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh..............

OTOH, trying to shorten the trial by forgoing witnesses was definitely bad optics for Reps. This may work out better in the long run.
