LB,

At the time of the SARS outbreak in Canada there was a lot of handwringing related to the facts associated with the differential response between Canada and the US. The vaunted centrally managed Canadian system faired far worse than the chaotic (Canadian perspective) decentralized US system.

But this was soon forgotten.

Why did it occur?

The Canadian system is resource constrained and as a result of their drive for efficiency is much less agile in facing a pandemic threat. They were also ahead of the curve in political correctness and were permitting direct flights during the worst of the outbreak. Don't single out Asians - don't be racist stuff.

Entire hospital systems were shut down. All but emergency procedures cancelled. My 1st wife was immunocompromised (chemotherapy) and while at our summer house - we did not allow visitors we had her meds shipped direct. Our neighbor - who was a surgeon at the local hospital warned us to NOT come to either of the hospitals within driving distance.

I am worried that political correctness applied to the coronavirus source will lead to a larger outbreak.
