1/31/2020 Contest update
(Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
As January and Trump’s impeachment trial came to a close, bearish sentiment turned especially viral with biotechs not immune to the selling pressure.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 1.56% YTD (vs. up 3.49% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -3.79% YTD (vs. down -1.24% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -4.59% YTD (vs. down -2.80% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), was up 1.44% YTD (vs. up 3.26% YTD a week ago).
JBOG’s portfolio gave up quite a bit of ground but held on to first place with a 44.37% YTD gain. Also maintaining their rank were second place FILO’s portfolio, up 41.85% YTD, and third place OLIVIER’s portfolio, up 17.31% YTD.
At Friday's close, 22 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 31 beating the NBI and 33 beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 2.38% and a median YTD loss of -2.71%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe & relaxing first February weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
