A lot of people are yelling for more speed at the end user point and will probably buy xDSL modems as soon as they are available but the major bottleneck is at the guy's server that we are all trying to suck free information out of. Suppliers will concentrate on the end user part because of the large number of modems that they can sell translates into a lot of bucks.
Buying an xDSL modem is like shoehorning a 350 LT-1 V8 into my Honda and go screaming onto the Internet Highway using Nortel's OC-3, OC-48 or OC-192, they may even use NT or CIEN DWDM to get me to the exit ramp where we will sit and wait with our 30X??? or NT 17X straws waiting our turn to suck our allocated drops out of the host's T1 (1.5Mb link). Remember that there will be a large number of people at the host site being funneled into the host's link ( a T1 straw may be all he is willng to install to serve us the 'free' information )
