Analysts applauded IBM's latest move to include both server-based Windows and Java capabilities in its NCs.

"When you start using things like the ICA protocol from Citrix, you can do things like open an attachment to an e-mail message, and have Windows compatibility in a mixed environment," said Rob Enderle, analyst at Giga Information Group. "You can't do anything close to that in a terminal environment."
