Mike,

David, Sdram is just a form of Dram, IMHO, similar to the differences between fast page mode and EDO, and the long defunct and overhyped, by Micron, of course, Burst EDO. Even Micron has figured out how to make SDRAMs by now. Not well, but they can do it. -g-

Do not mean to belabor a point but DRAM and SDRAM are as different from each other as VGA and SVGA monitors have their differences.

Plain and simple DRAM is one product used primarily for 486 and Pentium products and SDRAM primarily for higher end PENTIUM and PENTIUM II products. There are some overlaps in a small percentage of cases because of various Motherboard chipsets currently available (i.e. PENTIUM PRO uses DRAM b/c of 440FX chipset) but for the very most part this is true and what drives these two very different markets.

Now if a company is talking about DRAM they understand this distinction completely and therefore are only referring to Fast page and Hyperpage(EDO) and absolutely not SDRAM.

Also EDO is the least expensive RAM memory mainly and obviously b/c of the SEA dumping...On the otherhand SDRAM which is manufactured and tested differently is the more expensive chip to the consumer with a much higher asp and margin although MU with its .25M fabs are producing at almost same cost as DRAM...and I should qualify that we are talking 16mb products which is the majority of the business today and will be for most of this year until crossover occurs.

What is beginning to happen on this thread is misundestanding in terminology and semantics. If we can clear them up early then all will better understand each other ....even though we do not agree...but it just may pull extreme opposing views a little closer together.
