Northern hemisphere snow cover update. Currently trending below recent years' levels with a newly seen upturn beginning. "Weather" outlooks for many northern hemisphere land masses for the rest of Feb. show that upturn has good potential to continue. This chart shows that a ramp-up is quite usual for mid-February.

The amount of snow in the northern hemisphere over the last 20 years has increased significantly over the prior 20 years. Late Spring goes with that. When new climatological baselines are set in a couple years, snow cover and mass baselines will be something to note.

Albedo may play an overlooked role in Spring's onset.....again.....this year. At these "new" levels established over the last 20 years, only relatively very low years will be helpful.
There are certainly other factors involved with timing of the onset of Spring/end of Winter in any given region, but hemispheric albedo level is a "base" piece of data.
