RECORD BREAKING COLD SWEEPS SOUTH KOREA — MULTIPLE CITIES SUFFER THEIR COLDEST-EVER TEMPS
FEBRUARY 6, 2020 CAP ALLON

“Cold wave alerts” remain in place for South Korea’s central and southern regions through Thursday, as multiple cities suffer their coldest days on record.

Seoul’s low of -11.8C (10.8F) on Thursday marks the capital’s coldest reading of the winter so far, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), with the current freeze expected to extend into the weekend.

Furthermore, and even more impressively, many central inland regions registered their lowest EVER recorded temps overnight Wednesday into Thursday — these include:

Incheon’s low of -10C (14F).

Suwon’s -11.9C (10.6F).

Daejeon’s -10.5C (13.1F).

Cheonan’s -12.8C (9F).

And Cheongju’s -10C (14F).

Again, just to clarify, the above are the coldest temperatures ever recorded for these towns and cities -for any day/month of the year– according to the KMA, and as originally reported by koreaherald.com.

The mercury in mountainous areas such as Daegwallyeong and Cheorwon in Gangwon Province plunged even further, to as low as -24C (-11.2F) and -17.7C (0.1F), respectively.

While the relatively warmer regions to the country’s south also recorded subzero temperatures, with Busan suffering -5C (23F), Ulsan -6.8C (19.8F), Gwangju -7C (19.4F), and Jeonju -9.2C (15.4F).

In addition, the KMA has also revealed daily highs across the country have ranged between -4C and -5C of late — some 4C to 7C below the 30-year average.
