We have learned so much about the mechanisms that run life but we have no idea HOW it all works. The radiation eating fungus at Chernobyl is a good example. Does it exist everywhere waiting for favorable conditions or did it evolve from a different kind of fungus to take advantage of a new food source. What animates this seemingly miraculous ability to adapt?
